The skin microbiota affects wound healing, inflammatory and immune responses to infections, and chronic skin diseases. Gimblet et al. investigated the role of the skin microbiota in cutaneous leishmaniasis and found that infection with Leishmania spp. parasites caused a decrease in bacterial diversity
