Abstract

Due to the presence of a formally divalent carbon atom, isocyanides occupy a unique position in the field of organic chemistry, and have enjoyed widespread use in organic synthesis, 1 especially in multicomponent transformations. 2 The chemistry of isocyanides is dominated by the nucleophilicity of the isocyano carbon atom as a result of the interaction of the vacant p π orbital with the lone pair of electrons on the nitrogen atom (Figure 1, a).
