Abstract

In 2003, Fusetani and co-workers described the isolation of ageladine A (1) by bioassay-guided fractionation of the marine sponge Agelas nakamurai Hoshino collected near Kuchinoerabu-jima Island in southern Japan. 1 The structure of this metabolite was established primarily by 2D NMR analysis. Ageladine A shows activity at micromolar levels as an inhibitor of matrixmetalloproteinases (MMPs) which are involved in regulation of angiogenesis. ...
