Abstract
The catalytic action of zinc iodide in reactions of phenyldiazomethane with aromatic aldehydes is described. Melting points, 1 H-NMR spectra, mass spectra and IR spectra were determined and it was found that the formation of desoxybenzoins occurs without the participation of a carbenoid intermediate PhCHIZnI.(author)
