Abstract
There are no approved therapies designed to stimulate bone growth and to replace the bone mass lost in osteoporosis. Recent studies have suggested that steroidal progestins may promote bone formation and so might serve as a treatment for established osteoporosis. lI2 Progesterone receptors have been described in cultured osteoblast-like cells, and steroidal progestins have also been shown to directly affect osteoblast a~ tivity.~ ...
