Abstract

Erotnochloroiodomethane may be prepared conreniently by the action of alkali and sodium iodide on dibromochloromethane in methanol. The reaction involves the reversible formation of a trihalomethyl carbanion followed by a slower decomposition of the carbanion to dihalomethylenes.
