Abstract: Attempts have been made to generate the potentially nucleophilic carbene, 2, 3- diphenylcyclopropenyli-dene, and the corresponding diphenyldiazocyclopropene. The methods explored include oxidation of the hydrazone, decomposition of salts of the tosylhydrazone, reaction of the appropriate N-nitrosocarbamate with base, and a eliminations of carboxylic acids from the diphenylcyclopropenyl acetate, benzoate, p- ...
