Abstract Activated chlorine atoms are displaced by sulphoxide oxygen when di-and tri- nitrochlorobenzenes are heated in dimethyl sulphoxide. The corresponding phenols, thiomethoxymethyl-and formyl-substituted phenols, thioanisoles and decomposition products of chlorodimethyl sulphide are formed.
