Abstract

The 9, 10-dicyanoanthracene-sensitized rearrangement of several 3-phenyl-substituted cyclopropenes to indenes in acetonitrile has been studied. When an unsymmetrically 1- phenyl-2-methyl-substituted cyclopropene was used, the mrijor indene obtained corresponds to cleavage of the cyclopropene bond attached to the phenyl group.
