Abstract

A method was developed for selectively converting secondary amines to the corresponding nitramines in the presence of primary amino groups. The method consists of three steps:(1) complete acetylation of the amino groups,(2) selective nitrolysis of the amido group by treatment of the acetylated amine with a nitric acid-trifluoroacetic anhydride mixture or with nitrogen pentoxide in a suitable solvent, and (3) hydrolysis of the diacetamido group.
