Abstract

One of our research groups recently reported the first preparation of N-(1-haloalky1) heteroarylium salts 1 from an aldehyde, thionyl halide, and a heterocycle, in a preliminary communication,'and outlined some of their synthetic potential in nucleophilic displacement reactions.
