Abstract

Acetone dimethyl acetal (2, 2-dimethoxypropane) is now readily available2 and transketalization methods have been developed by which it can be used to prepare a variety of other ketals. The methods comprise interchanging the alkoxyl or ketone groups in a slightly acid medium, and both kinds of groups can, in effect, be interchanged simultaneously in the same mixture.
