Abstract

Ethyl 4-bromocrotonate was prepared by the reaction of N-bromosuccinimide6 on ethyl crotonate in the presence of dibenzoyl peroxide,? and unsaturated hydroxy esters were obtained according to the equation above, although in relatively low yield. Much of the product apparently underwent dehydration to give substituted 2, 4-pentadienoic esters. Fuson, Arnold and Cooke5 observed this dehydration in their work on the Reformatsky ...
