Abstract

When we encountered the need to convert 1,1-diarylethenes into benzophenones, we initially used NaIO 4 as an oxidant in the presence of ruthenium oxide, 29 but no reaction was observed. Although m-chloroperbenzoic acid (m-CPBA) is a well-known reagent for epoxidation, few reports exist in the literature in which m-CPBA promotes oxidative cleavage of specific endocyclic C C bonds into diketones. 30 and 31 We found no reports of the ...
