Abstract

Functionalized phenanthridine based probe has been rationally designed and synthesized. 1H & 13NMR, X-ray photoelectron spectra and HRMS were conducted to characterize and prove its structure. The probe exhibited fluorogenic selectivity to detection of Ru3+ among the metal ions tested. The probe showed linear fluorescence increase over the introduction of Ru3+. The fluorescence increase attributed to the complex formation between probe 2 and Ru3+. Job plot experiments showed that there was 1:1 complex formation between receptor 2 and Ru3+. Further the recognition of Ru3+ ion in the living cell was achieved using fluoresce microscope.
