Abstract

In this Letter, we have described a mild and efficient method for the nucleophilic ring-opening of epoxides with amines in the presence of heterogeneous catalyst zinc perchlorate–neutral alumina to afford the corresponding β-amino alcohols in excellent yields. It was observed in the absence of catalyst, the reaction did not proceed in dichloromethane even after prolonged reaction times (Scheme 1).
