Abstract
Quinone monoketals are of demonstrated utility in organic synthesis.'These compounds are prepared from oxidation of p-methoxyphenols' p2 or by regioselective hydrolysis of quinone bisketals.'J The former method is dependent upon the availability of the requisite phenol; the latter procedure affords the quinone monoketal wherein the less hindered quinone carbonyl is present as the free carbonyl group.
