Abstract

The following ruthenium-catalyzed novel transformations of alkyl formates have been developed:(1) selective decarbonylation of alkyl formates to the corresponding alcohols;(2) alkylation of arenes and alkenes using alkyl formates as an alkylating reagent via decarboxylation.
