Abstract
DM Chem. Reu. 1979, 79, 491. as its a-methyl derivative at C-1 (entry 4), efficiently gave a single new compound under the reaction conditions. In choosing 2, it was anticipated that simple exposure of 3 to a Lewis acid (LA) should, following workup, effect cleavage, 12 due to the strong stabilizing nature of the functional groups located on the incipient carbocation (ie, 4).
