Abstract

Palladium-catalyzed vinylic substitutions occur normally with both m-and p-bromobenzoic acid in the presence of 2 equiv of a tertiary amine. The ortho acid does not react. Its methyl ester does, however. Free carboxylic acid groups may also be present in the olefinic reactant. Acrylic, crotonic, and methacrylic acids were successfully react-ed.
