Abstract

Chemistry. The primary route utilized in the preparation of the desired carboxyarylindoles is illustrated in Scheme I. Condensation of an a-halo ketone with an enamine2! 13 in either toluene3 (procedure A) or DMF (procedure B) afforded a 1, 4-diketone in moderate to good yield.
