Abstract

In the condensation of alcohols with various acetylenes, catalyzed by a mercury salt and a suitable acid, to form acetals or ketals, it has been quite generally believed that vinyl ethers are intermediates in the reacti~ n.~~~'~ Such vinyl ethers, however, have never been isolated from these reactions, although they have been synthesized by other methods.
