Abstract

pyridine, is electronically analogous to cyclohexa-l, 3-diene. Because the nitrogen atom and double bond are part of the same ring in enamine 2, molecular models indicate that the interaction between the lone pair of electrons on nitrogen and the? r molecular orbitals of the double bond should be large. In spite of the interest in this simple enamine, previous attempts to prepare 2 have been unsuccessful. z
