Abstract

Acetalization and thioacetalization are important transformations for the protection of a carbonyl group in multistep organic synthesis. Acetals and dithioacetals tolerate a wide range of nucleophilic, basic and organometallic reagents, reducing agents, and nonacidic oxidants.
