Abstract
Halogenation of dimethylaniline derivatives in concentrated sulphuric acid in presence of silver sulphate has given products in which the chlorine or bromine atom lies meta to the basic group. The applicability of the reaction depends on the nature of the other substituents present. The process has been applied in particular to the preparation of 4-amino-3- bromodimethyl-aniline.
