Abstract
was heated at 95'. The oily free aldehyde that formed was extracted into EtzO. The Et20 was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in a mixture of MeOH (30 ml), HzO (5 ml), and KOH (2.8 g), and the solution was heated at 80'for 1 h. The solution was cooled and acidified to precipitate the product acid which was recrystallized from benzene to yield 2.9 g (35%) of 36: mp 147-148'. Anal.(CllH10C1204) C, H, C1.
