Abstract
Abstract A study of the oxidation of two neopentylhydrazines by iodine in the presence of base has shown that carbocations are only involved to a minor extent as intermediates in alkyl iodide formation, but are likely to be involved to a considerable extent in the formation of alkenes and alcohols. A comparison is made between the course of oxidation of a given alkylhydrazine and deamination of the corresponding amine.
