Abstract

Dodecamethylcyclohexasilane undergoes ring contraction with aluminium chloride as catalyst in the presence or absence of trimethylchlorosilane to give, respectively, chlorodimethylsilyl-or trimethylsilyl-cyclo-pentasilane, the former being convertible into monofunctional nonamethylcyclopentasilanes.
