Abstract
The novel natural products calothrixins A (1a) and B (1b) were first isolated and identified in 1999 by Rickards and co-workers. 1 The calothrixins have been shown to inhibit the growth of the chloroquine-resistant strain of the human malaria parasite, Plasmodium falciparum, as well as display potent cell-killing abilities against certain cancer cell lines. 1-3 Structurally the calothrixins have the novel indolophenanthridine skeleton, which combines the chemical motifs of a ...
