Abstract: Several 4-alkylidene-3-oxazalin-5-ones (“unsaturated azlactones”) and some sulfur analogs react with dimethyl 3-oxoglutarate in the presence of base to form derivatives of 6-aminocyclohexane-l, 3-dione.
