Abstract
The reaction of hexamethylacetone I with methyllithium or methylmagnesium iodide afforded 2, 2, 3, 4, 4-pentamethyl-3-pentano14 (II) in 71-7570 yield and this was dehydrated to a mixture of olefins in 78y0 yield by means of thionyl chloride and pyridine. j Analysis by gas chromatography showed that about 90% of this mixture was 1, l-di-t-butylethylene (II1) and 670 probably 2, 3, 3, 4, 4-pentamethyl-1-pentene although this structure was not ...
