Abstract: Highly enantioselective reduction of aliphatic chloro ketones catalyzed by Thermoanaerobium brockii alcohol dehydrogenase (TBADH) afforded the corresponding S chloro alcohols, which are new and useful chiral bifunctional building blocks.
