Abstract

A novel synthetic approach to a-diketone and a-keto ester derivatives of N-protected amino acids and peptides via a common intermediate is described. Conversion of the carboxyl group of N-protected amino acids and peptides into an a-keto vinyl ether functionality and subsequent hydrolysis or ozonolysis produces a-diketone or a-keto ester functionalities, respectively.
