Abstract
Abstract An efficient demethylation of methyl aryl ethers using an ionic liquid, 1-n-butyl-3- methylimidazolium bromide ([bmim][Br]) has been developed. Methyl aryl ethers are successfully cleaved by the halide anion of [bmim][Br], without aid of any other activating agents.
