Abstract
The 16-membered lactone pentadecanolide, one of the fragrant components of angelica root oil and trivially named exaltolide “, figures among the first large-ring lactones synthesized over 50 years ago “. Due to its pleasant musk fragrance and strong fixative property, exaltolide is important in the perfumes and cosmetic-industry.
