Abstract: Upon treatment with the solvent conjugate base, the primary reaction of substituted 1-phenylethyl chlorides is elimination to substituted styrenes in t-BuOH-10% v/v Me2S0 at 60 OC and in bis (Zhydroxyethy1) ether-10% v/v Me2S0 at 45 OC.
