Abstract

A solventless and expeditious method for the preparation of alcohols is described from aldehydes using barium hydroxide, Ba (OH) 2.8 H2O, and paraformaldehyde. A comparison of this microwave-accelerated Cannizzaro reaction to the one under conventional heating mode is also reported.
