Abstract
Abstract Copper (II) in aqueous NH 4 OH, in most cases in conjunction with O 2 or K 2 S 2 O 8 as auxiliary oxidant, induces oxidative cleavage of ketones to nitriles when there is a good carbon electrofuge; for unactivated ketones, the main reaction observed is oxidative coupling of ketimines to give azines.
