Abstract

Introduction Previous studies2s3 have shown that t-butyl peresters, t-butyl hydroperoxides and peroxides react with cuprous salts to produce t-butoxy radicals (1). In the presence of alkenes these alkoxy radicals produce allylic radicals I by hydrogen abstraction (2); and with conjugated dienes such as butadiene, isoprene and styrene they react by addition (3) to form such adducts as the allylic t-butoxybutenyl radicals 11.
