Abstract: A two-step, one-pot sequence has been developed that provides an anionic route to functionalized carbocycles containing five-or six-membered rings. Primary alkenyllithiums, which are prepared in excellent yield by metal-halogen interchange between the appropriate iodide and t-BuLi at-78 OC, are stable at low temperature.
