Abstract Glass wool is widely used as an insulating material. Here we report for the first time, the function of glass wool as a mild heterogeneous catalyst under vapor phase conditions— particularly for the rearrangement of styrene oxides including halogen-substituted styrene oxides to the corresponding phenyl acetaldehydes.
