Abstract

Electronic absorption spectra have been recorded for lithium salts of twelve substituted fluorenes in cyclohexylamine. The compounds include 2-fluorofluorene1 2- dimethylaminofluorene, the five isomeric methylfluorenes, and the five methoxyfluorenes. Relative to lithium fluorenyl itself, salts bearing a substituent at the 1, 2, or 4 position show a hypsochromic shift, whereas those substituted at the 3 or 9 position show a bathochromic ...
