Abstract
Hydrolytically stable and easy to handle trifluoromethyl triflate was found to be a liquid reservoir of 'masked'difluorophosgene. Anhydrous F− sources cleave the S–O bond in trifluoromethyl triflate yielding quantitatively the trifluoromethanolate salts, being useful trifluoromethoxy group carriers.
