Abstract
Friedel-Crafts acylation of aromatic rings has proved of great importance in fine chemical synthesis.' In order to avoid the disadvantages of using soluble Lewis acids (eg AlC13) as 'catalysts' and acyl halides as the acylating agents, the use of acid zeolite (eg 1000 g per mole of reactant) as the catalyst has been studied over the past decade.24 Here we report our preliminary results concerning the acylation of anisole with carboxylic acids over HZSM-5 zeolite.
