Abstract
Abstract Monodeuterated thiirane-1-oxide occurs in two diastereomeric forms, with the D atom cis or trans to the pyramidal SO group (right). Infrared multiphoton excitation of the SO infrared chromophore with pulsed CO 2 lasers leads to the spin-forbidden dissociation into ethene and SO (3 Σ−). This process results in enrichment of one diastereomer. This is the first example of its kind in infrared laser chemistry.
