Abstract
Acylation of monoethanolamine (I) with adamantane-l-carbonyl chloride (II) gave N-(2- hydroxyethyl) adamantane-l-carboxamide (III). The absence of absorption in the IR spectrum at 1730-1750 cm-I, typical of the ester group, indicated that the reaction had proceeded selectively at the nitrogen atom of the aminoalcohol (I). Reaction of methyl adamantane- lcarboxylate with an excess of the aminoalcohol (I) gave the same amide (III), but in lower ...
