Abstract
Treatment of 1, 6-bis (methylthio) dodecafluorohexane with concentrated sulfuric acid at temperatures of 150-180" in Hastelloy B pressure equipment causes hydrolysis of the terminal difluoromethylene groups, removal of the sulfur function, and formation of octafluorohexanedioic acid, isolated as the dimethyl ester.
