Abstract
Summary The extent of the hydrogenation of an ester of the type of n-octyl caprylate to 1- octanol over copper chromium oxide at 260'increases from 20% at 10 atm. to 99% at 250 atm. of hydrogen. Thus the process may be used for the conversion of an alcohol, RCHZOH, to the corresponding ester, RC02CHZR, as well as the hydrogenation of an ester to alcohol.
