Abstract
Bridging hydroxo diphosphine complexes of Pd (II) and Pt (II) catalyze the Baeyer-Villiger oxidation of ketones. Larger diphosphines yield better catalysts, one of which is capable of catalyzing for the first time the oxidation of acyclic ketones. The mechanism involves an intramolecular nucleophilic attack of a hydroperoxy ligand on the coordinated ketone and bears strong similarities with the organic stoichiometric reaction.
