Abstract
Several acidic reagents are available for the preparation of cyclic ketones from 3-and 4-aryl- substituted carboxylic acids.'Literature references to the use of methanesulfonic acid (MSA) for this purpose are meagere2 Eaton and Carlson3 describe a cyclization procedure using a hot mixture of MSA and P205.
